Artist Statement
This mural is a tribute to the many extraordinary beings that inhabit the land, sea and air all around the Stephanie Inn. These images represent over 100 direct impressions taken from the surface of these creatures that share life with us along the 45th parallel. I have been working at the intersection of design and the living planet for the past 40 years, founding four values-based businesses and two education and conservation-focused NGOs.
Please enjoy this beautiful visual guide to the mural, created by Duncan Berry, to help viewers identify the multitude of coastal plants and sea life represented in his piece.
About the Artist
Duncan’s work is an active form of reverence for all the creatures that, as he notes, “my very existence depends upon…and that are gloriously beautiful and elegant in their design.” Duncan hopes that this one-of-a-kind expression will invite visitors and locals alike to form an even deeper and more intimate relationship with the wild all around us.
