Stephanie Inn Sojourn: North Coast Craft Ale Trail

Brewer’s Tour, Tasting and Beer Pairing Dinner with Public Coast Brewing Co.’s Brewer Will Leroux, and Stephanie Inn Dining Room Executive Chef, Aaron Bedard

Date:  May 10, 2018

Oregon’s North Coast has emerged as a magnet for craft brewers—but don’t let their laid back beach lifestyle fool you.  These brewers mean business, pouring their heart and soul into every tank. This day was  fun, tasty and informative as brewer Will Leroux, chief hops alchemist at Public Coast Brewing, took guests to meet his North Coast brewing brethren at Astoria’s Buoy Beer Co. and Pelican Brewing in Cannon Beach.

Brewer Will is a trained and accomplished Executive Chef and Brewer, whose hobbies include farming, foraging, beekeeping and wood working. As Head Brewer at Public Coast, his love of craft beer and years as a chef come to life in stand out flavor profiles.  “I love making beer for the people. Never fussy, just delicious and inspired by all the great Oregon ingredients I have at my fingertips.” – Brewer Will
Itinerary:

1-7 pm:

1 pm:  Sojourns guests departed from the Stephanie Inn with Brewer Will and Executive Chef Aaron to our very own Public Coast Brewing Co. in Cannon Beach. Once there, they got hands-on insight into a day in the life of Brewer Will.

They tasted the People’s Pale, ’67 Blonde and Oswald IPA, all inspired by Oregon’s 363 miles of beautiful public coastline, for which the brewery is named. Guests tasted from the bright tanks, in fact, tasted just about anything they liked, including Brewer Will’s Barrel Aged beers and private reserves.

They then traveled 45 minutes North to Astoria, an 1856 river town where maritime relics and historic piers and canneries live alongside farm-fresh eateries and hills dotted with Victorian homes.   Astoria is also home to a hopping brewing scene–pun intended. Guests got a behind-the-tanks look at Buoy Beer Co. located on the Columbia River, and got to meet and taste with the Brewer.

Final stop: Back in Cannon Beach, they toured Pelican’s beautiful new brewery and sampled some small-batch beers with Brewer Coren Tradd. Pelican’s 20-year history as an Oregon favorite is matched only by the quality and diversity of their award-winning beers.

Back to the Inn by 6:00 pm.

7:30 pm:  After some downtime, Sojourns participants gathered back in the Stephanie Inn Dining Room and enjoyed a Brewer-Chef Collaborative 5-course menu.  Each course inspired and perfectly paired with the malty, citrusy, hoppy flavor profiles of  Public Coast Brewing beers.
